Berlin/Fürth, September 17, 2015: Fürth's new brand-strong pedestrian zone on Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße is celebrating its completion today.
After the southern part of the Neue Mitte Fürth was opened in March of this year, the buildings on the opposite side of the street are now completed in time for the autumn season. Lord mayor Dr. Thomas Jung and Dr. Alexander Schlag, member of the executive board of the project developer MIB AG, handed over the new shopping centre on Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße with a huge shower of confetti from the Fürth public.
After a good two years of construction time, the Fürth inner city, which is located in a prime location between Schwabacher Straße and Fürther Freiheit, has a brand new retail hotspot that is already encouraging the Fürth residents to go shopping in their own city and is attracting old and new visitors to the city from the surrounding area. The upswing in Fürth's retail trade can already be felt since the opening of the first part of the Neue Mitte shopping mall. The Fürth residents have rediscovered their inner city as a shopping destination. Shops are being modernised in the direct vicinity and new shops are being built.
Over 11,300 m2 of retail space was created on Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße, which is occupied by the tenants C&A, TK Maxx, Desigual, Esprit, s.Oliver, Mengin, hunkemöller, Gerry Weber, dunkin donuts, dm, REWE, Samocca and Sparda-Bank. Mango and Depot will complete the tenant occupancy in the coming weeks. The Neue Mitte Fürth shopping mall also offers about 3,200 m2 of office space, which was already largely leased to physicians and attorneys as well as a Hard Candy fitness studio in a space of about 2,300 m2. The municipal public library will soon move into the upper floors of the "Tower" at Fürther Freiheit. There the topmost glassed-to-the-floor storey with the reading room will receive the Fürth residents with a café in addition to a roof terrace and panoramic view of the city. The underground car park on Moststraße with direct access to the pedestrian zone has more than 144 parking spaces.
The "commercial building model", which MIB developed for the Fürth inner city and with which they were able to convince the city council in July 2011, at the same time was a joint decision by the city and investors against a more inward-looking shopping centre in the same location. As part of the construction of the Neue Mitte shopping mall, the existing pedestrian zone was extended to Fürther Freiheit so that all commercial tenants have a shop window front and direct access to the walking route.
