The new BurgForum community hall in Köngen, Esslingen, was opened in September 2020, 20 months after construction began. The new building houses the school canteen, all-day care facilities and the Köngen youth centre. The premises will also be used by other local clubs and sports groups .
Unfortunately, the opening ceremony was much smaller than planned due to Covid 19. Students at the Burgschule school next door can now enjoy a new canteen and various multi-functional rooms that also include a pool table and workbenches. The "Trafo" youth centre has also relocated from the now demolished Lindenturnhalle to the new Burgforum. Young people can take advantage of the "Youth Café" with its large outdoor seating area as well as a band practice room and a bar. What's more, the municipality of Köngen's citizens and visitors now have a large functions room for up to 500 people at their disposal.
User requirements were taken into consideration from the very start when the contract for the multi-functional building was put out for tender in an ideas competition. A cooperative development strategy ensured excellent project team communications across all disciplines.
The BurgForum was completed on time and within budget thanks to the consistently good cooperation of all those involved. KVL Bauconsult Stuttgart oversaw the project on behalf of the municipality through all phases from phase 0 in 2016 onwards. We are delighted to have played a part in helping the people of Köngen bring about this flagship project.
